People arrive at this page searching for quite different things. Some want a business coach. A good number search for a business life coach, or a business and life coach, and those searches tell me something specific: the problem has stopped being tidy.
That is the most common shape of the work I actually do. A conversation that starts with a hiring decision turns out to be about conflict avoidance. One that starts with exhaustion turns out to be about a pricing decision made three years ago. In my experience, the category on the invoice is the last thing to become clear.
So what changes when the work crosses over? Not much in the first session, and quite a lot by the third. We still open with the numbers and the diary, because that is where the evidence is. What changes is that I stop accepting the first answer. If you tell me the hire fell through because the candidate was wrong, I’ll ask what happened in the hire before that. Ordinary business coaching tends to stop at the decision. This doesn’t.

Coaching Prices in London, from Life Coaching to Executive
Life coaching runs from about £30 an hour online to £150 an hour for a premium London practitioner. Business coaching runs from £80 to £200 an hour. Executive coaching runs from £200 to £500 an hour. I have not seen that comparison published anywhere else, so here it is.

These are published market ranges rather than an official benchmark, because no UK body sets one. Life coaching figures from the Bark UK price guide. Business and executive figures from Leadership Services (2026) and Leadership Training Hub. Life coaching is mostly quoted per session, while business and executive coaching is quoted per hour, so each row says which.
Two things are worth taking from that. The cheapest hour in the table is about a seventeenth of the dearest, which is an extraordinary spread for a single profession. And the bands overlap at the edges, so the label on the invoice will not tell you what you are about to pay.
For my own work, the six-month Complete Transformation programme is £9,495. That covers 48 coaching sessions of 60 minutes, or 26 sessions of 120 minutes, plus six deep-dive sessions of 180 minutes and three four-hour in-person sessions in London.
Across the 78 hours of contact on the twice-weekly route, the programme works out at roughly £122 an hour, or closer to £198 if you count only the 48 core sessions. Either way, it sits inside the published business coaching band rather than below it, and well above the going rate for life coaching in London.
The 90-day business mentoring programme is £4,995. The single breakthrough session is priced on the call, because what it involves depends on what you bring to it. Executive engagements are quoted separately, and my guide to what an executive coach does explains where the top of that table comes from.
Nobody Is Checking, and That Is Worth Knowing Before You Hire Anyone
Coaching in the UK is not a regulated profession. There is no licence to lose, no statutory register, and no minimum standard anyone has to meet before taking your money. According to the US-based Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation, which tracks the UK market, the industry “lacks universal regulation, allowing unqualified individuals to practice”.
Accreditation exists but it is voluntary. Bodies such as the ICF and the EMCC set real thresholds, and the EMCC’s senior levels require several years of practice, hundreds of client hours and ongoing supervision. Plenty of excellent coaches hold an accreditation. Plenty of excellent coaches do not.
Who supervises you, and how often?
What kind of client do you turn away?
How do we end this?
That last one matters most, because the answer tells you whether someone is building your capability or your dependence.
Nobody is checking, so you have to. Ask those three questions of me, and of everyone else on your shortlist. The answers will tell you more than any website.
When You Should Not Hire a Business Coach
More often than the industry admits, at least one of the following applies. I would rather turn work away than take a fee for the wrong thing.
- ✕ You need a specific skill. Financial modelling, employment law, a technical capability. Buy training or expertise, not coaching.
- ✕ You are dealing with a genuine mental health difficulty. That deserves a qualified clinician. Coaching is not therapy, and I am not a clinician. Speak to your GP, or refer yourself straight to NHS Talking Therapies, which you can use without a GP referral.
- ✕ You want someone to agree with a decision you have already made. That is an expensive way to buy reassurance.
- ✕ You need answers from inside your own sector. That is a mentoring need. My guide to business mentor versus business coach explains the difference.
- ✕ You are inside an organisation that is the problem, and it is not going to change. Coaching cannot repair a structurally broken environment.
If none of those apply and you are still hesitating, the question is timing rather than fit. That one is worth a conversation, and you can book a call without committing to anything.
